Shore Birds Abound - Fidalgo Island - Anacortes, Washington USA
Hi, Everyone -
Today's venture around the island resulted in some shots of different shore birds. Black Oystercatchers, Long-billed Dowitchers, and Dunlins. Quite the variety. Unfortunately, it was overcast so the colors are rather "flat."
Please enjoy!
Photos 1, 2: Black Oystercatchers on a rocky shore along Padilla Bay, March's Point, Fidalgo Island.
3. Kildeer wading in Bingo Slough (I've never seen them wade before)
4. Long-billed Dowitchers in Bingo Slough. Of note, the word Dowitcher is from the North American Iroquois and was first recorded in 1841.
5. The final capture of the day is of three Dunlins. They are a tiny bird -- smaller than the Long-billed Dowitchers above. They normally fly in very large flocks that move in synch. They are fun to watch in the air but hard to photograph. My 2024 Calendar, December photo, was of a flock of Dunlin in flight. A "blur" of birds.
Thanks for your support! Have a great weekend!
